Macclesfield Football Academy make it back to back league victories with a win over Moorland School
Second half goals from Joe Cobey and Sam Jordan ensured MFA got all three points at a tightly contested game at All Hallows.
Macclesfield Football Academy played their first game in 42 days as they faced third-placed Moorland School at All Hallows. MFA started the strongest as Joe Cobey and Sam Jordan were linking up nicely but couldn’t find the quality in the final third to get past the Moorland defence.
The first opportunity came as Joe Cobey latched onto a long ball from Colin Midgley and had his shot well saved, Callum Berry tried to chip the ball as the keeper spilt the ball but couldn’t get the hight and the Moorland keeper gathered comfortably.
MFA had a shout for a penalty as Joe Cobey was played in between two defenders and as he struck the ball, it appeared he was tripped, but the referee waved the appeals away.
The game grew quite scrappy with neither team managing to keep possession nor create any opportunities. Despite that, Moorland created an excellent opportunity to take the lead, as they worked it through the midfield and unleashed a shot which took a deflection and smashed against Joe Haigh’s goal and out of play.
The second half started with a much higher intensity with the MFA front line closing the ball down much quicker and were rewarded 13 minutes into the half, Sam Jordan received the ball on the edge of the box and his shot was deflected through to Joe Cobey who slotted the ball past the keeper on the half-volley to make it 1-0.
One became two nil ten minutes later courtesy of a great indervidual goal from Sam Jordan. A quick one-two between Joe Coby and Sam Jordan allowed Sam Jordan to spin his man and burst into the Moorland School half, he took on three defenders before slotting the ball under the onrushing keeper to make it 2-0.
MFA had opportunities to increase their lead with Adam Robinson having a penalty appeal waved away, James Chadwick miss-kicking his shot and Sam Jordan dragging his shot wide of the target.
Macclesfield saw out the game comfortably with Joe Haigh not having to make a save in the second half. This puts Macclesfield in third place one point off top spot with two games in hand.
After the game Manager, Kyle Lord said “We upped the tempo in the second half after a fatigued first-half display – we dusted the cobwebs off the first half and the second half allowed us to play our football, and we did this with a high intensity.
We are now in a good position in the league and to look at where MFA began this is a massive step and one we should all be proud of, we go again next week when we face The Football College, Bury.”
Watch what Captain Colin Midgley and Sam Jordan had to say after the result.
