Macclesfield Btec Academy B Team start off with defeat against Crewe Alexandra

It was a disappointing start to the league campaign for the ‘B’ squad. Going down 5-1 to a strong Crewe Alex side in their first game in the CEFA NC2.

Crewe took an early 2 goal lead, scoring 2 in 2 minutes (6th and 7th) but Macclesfield kept creating chances.

First of all, Kyha Cahill seeing a lobbed effort clip the post and go agonizingly wide and then Kofi Johnson seeing a bullet header superbly saved by the Crewe goalkeeper.

Crewe then very clinicly scored two more well taken goals to put them 4-0 up at Half Time.

The second half was more of what this squad is all about, good pressure and some directness about their play saw Ben Glendon score a well directed header across the goalkeeper into the far corner from a Femi Johnson delivery.

Chances then came for Joao Soares, Kyha Cahill, Luke Draysey and Ben Glendon but the Crewe keeper kept them out. Crewe went on to score with a minute to go to make the full time score Crewe 5-1 Macclesfield. Overall a positive reaction in the second half!

We now face Aston Villa in the Cup next week away from home and we’re hoping for more of the second half performance.
