Five star MFA put six past Congleton to make it back to back wins

After putting six past Altrincham FC last week at home spirits were high as MFA faced local neighbours Congleton High School on wednesday afternoon.

Congleton came into the game in 6th place having accumilated five points from their opening seven games whilst MFA sit in third having gained 12 points from their opening five league games.

It was congleton who started the game the strongest having the majority of possession in what was a very cagey opening ten minutes, and they calved out the first half chance of the game. After a loose pass was picked up in the centre of midfield the congleton centre-mid avoided the challenge of Ben Taylor before playing in his centre forward, whos shot couldnt find the target.

After this near scare MFA found their stride and started playing the football which they had been doing in previous games. Their patience and hard work was rewarded in the 20th minute. Zac Smith put in a deep free kick which was missed by everyone and Liam O’Connor found himself unmarked inside the box, he took the ball down before fireing past the Congleton keeper to open the scoring.

The lead was doubled on 26 minutes as after some fnatastic indervidual skill by Seb Losa to get past two Congleton midfielders he played a great over the top ball to Dan Jones, who took one touch to control it and the other to cheekily scoop it over the keeper to double MFA’s lead.

Although MFA had the majoirty of the proceedings for the rest of the half they couldnt quite make their pressure count and the half ended two-nil to MFA.

The second half started off very much as the first half ended with Macclesfield having the majority of the ball and creating the best chances.

Adam Robinson got himself on the scoresheet ten minutes into the second half to put MFA into a commanding position. After congleton failed to deal with a macclesfield corner, the ball fell in the six yard box and Adam Robinson stabbed the ball under the keeper to make it three – nil with still nearly half an hour to play.
