Macclesfield Town U19 A host Doncaster Rovers in the Semi-Final of the EFL CEFA Cup North
On Wednesday Macclesfield Town A return to Egerton Youth Club to face Doncaster Rovers in the Semi-Final of the EFL CEFA North Cup, with the winners facing either Sheffield United B or Derby County A.
Macclesfield host Doncaster aiming to make it into the EFL CEFA North Cup final at the first time of asking and also complete back to back victories against the South Yorkshire side.
Doncaster has had a varied season with their cup campaign going exceedingly well, winning all six of their games so far. Including a 14-0 thumping of Manchester City back in October. Whereas, their league form has been hit and miss only winning one of their six games. The sole win came against Shrewsbury Town on the opening week of the season in September.
In contrast, the Silkmen side has been consistent all season, playing twelve games and winning ten in the process. Only dropping points to Birmingham City after an exciting 3-3 draw in the cup and, most recently to Sheffield Wednesday after a close game which ended one all.
Paul McGuire will be looking to progress to the final of this competition in the clubs first season in the league. A victory in Wednesday’s game against the South Yorkshire side will set up a final against either Derby County who sit top of their league, winning every game they have played so far. Or, Sheffield United B who also sit in pole position in their league but have already lost to Derby County in the group stages of the competition.
McGuire’s side will have to make do without the ever-present Connor Seymour after an injury forced him off in a previous fixture against Nottingham Forest. They will also have to make late fitness calls Lewis Price and Ramani Manning they too are recovering from knocks.
These two teams last met each other last Wednesday. It was the young Silkmen side who took home all three points after a resounding 8-3 victory. Two goals from Trevor Kyobe along with side goals from Tyler James, Sean Holland, Liam Logan and Ramani Manning but the A team 6-1 up at half time. Further goals from Tyler James and Ivan Teixeria saw the Silkmen come away from South Yorkshire with all three points.
