Macclesfield Town Community Sports Trust is happy to announce that we are Relaunching our Premier League Kicks sessions in Macclesfield and Handforth.
After three and a half long months, we are happy to relaunch our Premier League Kicks sessions in Macclesfield and Handforth each week. It has been a long time coming but after a lot of planning and safety measures being put in place, we are happy to be resuming our sessions.
Premier League Kicks which started back in November is a programme which aims to increase participation in sport for children aged between eight and eighteen, it’s also aimed to help create a safer community and to breakdown barriers between young people and the police.
Before lockdown started we had kicks running at three different locations. Christ The King Primary School, providing kicks as an afterschool session running for one hour, for children on the Moss Estate. Macclesfield College ran on a Thursday evening between 7-8:30. Finally, we had a Kicks session running at Spath Lane MUGA in Handforth on a Tuesday evening between 5 & 6:30.
Across the three sites, we interacted and engaged with 85 participants each week. This had a massive impact on the children and also the community. At Macclesfield Kicks, they ran a food donation event for SilkLife foodbank around Christmas time for people in need which was a massive success.
During the lockdown, we have been putting on weekly sessions via zoom to keep the children engaged and entertained. On Wednesdays, we have been running 45-minute workout sessions and on Fridays, we run a quiz aimed for children.
As lockdown restrictions have eased, it has allowed us to go back and start to resume our kicks sessions at two of our locations. Following government guidlines and assistance from the Premier League and other Community Schemes, we are able to re-launch.
On Mondays, we are running a session in South Park between 3:30 & 4:15 for children aged 8-11 years and 4:30 – 5:15 for children aged 12-18 years. Alongside that, we are running our Kicks sessions in Handforth MUGA at the same time but on Tuesdays.
Each session is aimed to be socially distanced and all of our equipment is cleaned before and after the session. Every participant will use hand sanitiser before and after each session too, this is to make sure everyone feels safe whilst at our sessions,
To take part in our free kicks sessions you must book on by texting Daniel Whiting on 07979182443 and stating “Childs Name, Age, Location interested in” Daniel will get back to you with more information and where to meet etc.
Kicks Lead Daniel Whiting had this to say about Kicks re-launching “It’s been absolutely great to get started again. All coaches have worked very hard to prepare for project restart, so it’s great to see the participants enjoying Kicks again.
We have had an impact on so many children during lockdown through Wednesday workouts and The weekly quizzes, but it’s great to see them enjoying our kicks sessions in our Monday/Tuesday sessions.
Well done everyone!”
