On Sunday Macclesfield Town Under 21s, A team travel to play St Michaels DH Under 21s in the North West Under 21 Development League.
The young Silkmen side will be looking to build on their impressive showing in the recent preseason games. Players in the U21 side featured in high scoring affairs against Sandbach United and Poynton FC and a big win in the EFL CEFA cup final against Derby County.
The side also bolstered their attacking options following the addition of Alistair Brown and Andi Kideri joining the side with a combined total of 71 goals in last year’s campaign for a dominant Derby side who won CEFA title. With these additions along with some other exciting talents, this Silkmen side is a threatening attacking force heading into the fixture.
The Silkmen have a trip to Widnes to face St Michaels, a club who were founded in 1966 and have teams playing in a range of leagues. This St Michaels Under 21 side are coming off a big 4-2 win against local rivals Runcorn Linnets with Dom Breaton bagging a hat-trick and Ryan Hunter rounding out the goalscorers.
Assistant Manager Daniel Whiting is relishing the opportunity to see the team playing competitive games after such a long period away. He said:
“It’s been a long wait to start the league campaign again but the time has come around fast. From players to the staff we are all looking forward to it.
It’s not going to be a walk in the park either on Sunday but we have a strong physical and talented set of lads that is going to put a real marker down this season. I’m expecting 11 men on that pitch hungry for a win after a long wait.”
Going on to discuss the squad he had this say about the players coming into the team; “The team is made up of externals right through to 1st-year players including Harry Lukatome, Cole Ojungu who has impressed me and other coaches at the academy. We are looking forward to seeing Alistair and Andi Ex derby academy players in our squad as they have both scored a combined 72 goals between them last season. So they certainly are goal-hungry which is what we need.”
This match marks the beginning of both teams campaigns in the North West Under 21 development league as they aim to make a bright start to the season. Coverage of the fixture will be available on the Macclesfield Town Youth Development social media channels, so make sure to follow them to stay up to date.
