Macclesfield Town Under 21’s continue their North West Development League campaign this Sunday, making the short trip north to take on Stockport Town U21s.
Having picked up a point against current league leaders St Michaels DHFC on the opening day, Paul McGuire’s Silkmen will be looking to go one better against a Stockport side who have lost both of their league fixtures this season.
With many of the U19s CEFA National Cup-winning squad also in the Under 21 squad, confidence will be high amongst the Macclesfield Town camp, and with Stockport’s affiliation with the Pro Football Academy, there is sure to be an abundance of talent on the pitch at Stockport Sports Village.
Macclesfield’s unbeaten run in the league has stretched to 5 games now, but having lost twice to The Lions last season, Paul knows it will take a big effort to continue that form.
“It’s five games unbeaten now if you look back to the end of last season and the St Michaels game so we’re playing really well.
I think we were unlucky not to come away with the three points last time out but we’re a young side with some new lads that have come in over the summer so overall I was really impressed by the level of performance.
Stockport is a good side and even though they’ve been beaten twice this season we know it’s going to be a tough test. Last season they got the better of us twice 3-0 and 3-2 so we know that they’re a dangerous side to play against.
I think the focus has to be on just settling into the game nice and early and if we can get the first goal then I’m confident in our ability on the pitch to push on and pick up our first three points of the season.”
Kick-Off at Stockport Sports Village is at 16:30.
