Wednesday Afternoon sees the Silkmen U19 ‘A’ team continue their defense of the CEFA National Cup as they welcome Burton Albion ‘A’ to Macclesfield College.
After an enthralling opening group stage win at Walsall, Macclesfield face another tough test against a Burton side who are unbeaten this season, including the 7-0 hammering of Derby County ‘D’ last time out.
Despite dominating the game against Walsall it took two late goals for the Silkmen to turn the game around having gone 1-0 down against the run of play, and Paul McGuires will need to be more clinical against the much stronger Brewers.
Unbeaten Burton will go into the game-high in confidence having scored 17 goals in their opening three games this season, but face a sturdy defense that has only conceded 19 goals since September last year.
Delivered in partnership with Burton and South Derbyshire College, Albion’s Football and Education scheme offers students the opportunity to achieve BTEC Level 2 or 3 in Sport as well as relevant work experience with both Burton Albion Football Club and their community scheme.
Silkmen boss Paul McGuire feels his side is ready to continue their unbeaten run and defense of their title.
“The Walsall game was just one of those games that happen in football sometimes. On another day we would’ve won 4, 5, 6-1 but their keeper has played a blinder.
“We got out of jail with the two late goals but football is a results business and overall the win was completely deserved.
“We know that Burton is going to be a much tougher opposition so it’s important that if we get a chance in this one that we take it because if we don’t they’re more than capable of punishing us.
“The lads have been working hard again in training this week focusing on finishing so if we can implement those drills into the game we should be scoring a lot of goals and keeping our unbeaten run going.”
Kick-Off at Macclesfield College is at 13:00
