U19 A keep up their winning start to the season thanks to a brace from Lewis Price and goals from Ramani Manning and Tyler James
After last week’s emphatic cup victory against local rivals Crewe Alexandra, this week the Macclesfield Town Under 19s A squad faced their first away journey of the season with a trip to Burton Albion.
After manager Paul McGuire rotated his squad and tweaked the formation to a 3-4-3, the game opened at a frantic pace. After some slack play in the Silkmen midfield, the Brewers striker raced through to give the home side an unexpected lead.
This sparked the Silkmen into life and catalysed a period of sustained attacks at the Brewers’ goal.
The equaliser eventually came via Lewis Price, which settled the Macclesfield lads down and allowed them to express themselves more effectively.
Before the break the in-form Tyler James struck again – sending the visitors into half-time break in the ascendancy.
The second half was all but one way traffic, with Ramani Manning introduced as a half-time substitute and slotted home from close range after a slick attacking move to put Macc 3 – 1 up.
Lewis Price was a threat all day and got his second of the game to ease the Silkmen into a comfortable 4 – 1 lead.
As the game came to an end the Silkmen were guilty of wasting a host of chances, the best falling to Price as he raced clear but scuffed his chance wide of the goal with just the keeper to beat.
All in all a good result which keeps the A team’s winning starting to the season intact.
Manager Paul McGuire commented:
“We’ll need to start games better than that, but the lads showed the calmness and ability to come back and dominate the game.
“There will be much tougher tasks ahead, so we must learn some lessons from games like today”.
The side now face a tough test against Sheffield United ‘A’ next Wednesday, looking to maintain their 100% start to the season.
