Macclesfield Under 19’s will be aiming to make it two from two this Wednesday as they travel to a Coventry City side who are yet to find their feet in this seasons CEFA League Central Division One.
The Silkmen will be strong favourites against a Coventry side who have shipped 20 goals in their opening two games, including thirteen on their opening day against West Bromwich Albion.
Macclesfield’s A team will be full of confidence having won 7-0 against the same Birmingham side that had beaten Coventry 7-1 the week before, but it will be important that the Silkmen don’t get complacent against bottom of the table City.
A lack of match fitness is something that Macclesfield will be looking to avoid by getting off to a fast start, with the team not having played a competitive match since the first mid-week of the month.
Manager Paul McGuire is keen to see his side continue their winning streak, and knows that it may not be as plain sailing as the form-books suggest.
“When you look at it on paper it should be a comfortable game for us but we know as well as any team in this division that football matches aren’t won on paper.
“It’s important that we get off to a fast start to blow away any of those cobwebs that build up when you haven’t played a competitive game for two or three weeks; if we can do that and settle into a rhythm early on then you can’t really ask for much more from the lads.
“It was a good win against Birmingham, we looked defensively solid and going forward we were very dangerous with some clinical finishes so I think if we can replicate that performance it will be a successful afternoon,
“Coventry aren’t going to just roll over though so we are going to have to bring our A game to make sure that we come home with the three points in the bag.”
Kick Off at The Oval is at 13:30
