Match Preview: Macclesfield FC U19 ‘C’ Vs Aston Villa ‘B’

The Silkmen will be looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat against Derby County to keep their hopes of qualifying from the group stage alive as they host Aston Villa in the CEFA League Cup.

The defeat against unbeaten County has left Sam Summerbee’s side with it all to do in the final two group stage fixtures, and victory against Villa at Egerton Youth Cup is imperative if Macclesfield ‘C’ are to retain any hope of progression.

This will be the first home game of the season for Summerbee’s Silkmen having travelled all over the midlands in their opening four games, and starts a run of four straight home fixtures stretching into the new year which they will be aiming to take full advantage of.

They face an Aston Villa side who are yet to taste defeat on the road so far this season, and sit second in the Central Division 3 having won both of their league games so far, including a 4-0 win over Macclesfield ‘C’ on the opening day of the season.

The only defeat suffered by the visitors this season however, came in the cup against West Bromwich Albion giving the Silkmen the motivation going into this game knowing that their opponents are beatable.

In partnership with Aston Manor Sixth Form last season’s group of graduates from Aston Villa’s education and football programme went through with a 100% pass rate, highlighting the impressive commitment the club has to the off the pitch standard, as well as on the pitch.

Despite last weeks defeat and the strong opposition that Villa present, Silkmen coach Sam Summerbee is looking forward to what he knows will be another tough test.

“Derby really showed their class last week and showed why they’re unbeaten in the league above us so far this season.

“We faced Villa in our first ever competitive game as a group on the opening day of the league campaign but I feel as though with the time we’ve spent together as a unit we’ve definitely grown and got stronger and it’ll be a much tighter game this time around.

“Anything can happen in cup football so as long as we’re in with a chance of reaching the knockout stages we’ll give it our all to get there.”

Kick Off at Egerton Youth Club is at 14:00
